Vintage Car Show launches a year of events at Amberley

Amberley Museum hosted its first major event of the year on Sunday, 3rd April, when the Vintage Car Show returned to delight families and enthusiasts alike.
Over 120 vintage motor cars – the oldest an 1899 Benz – drove to the industrial museum north of Arundel to showcase the charm and inventiveness of early 20th century motoring. Visitors were able to ride on the museum’s Southdown Vintage Buses, as well as on the narrow-gauge railway with steam locomotive Polar Bear.

The Show was the first of a series of special events planned at the museum for 2022:

Spring Industrial Trains Day, Sunday 10th April. A day dedicated to narrow-gauge action, with opportunities to ride, watch and photograph industrial locomotives and historic wagons, view monorail and standard gauge demonstrations and talk to Rail Group Volunteers.

Easter Family activities, 9th to 24th April. Drop-in craft activities for children and a chance to test wildlife knowledge on the Easter bird egg trail. There will be more family activities during the half-term and summer holidays.

Spring Bus Show, Sunday 1st May.

The Classic Motorcycle Show, Sunday 8th May, is a highlight of the museum’s year when a collection of over 100 classic motorcycles, all pre-1992, will be on display in the museum grounds to celebrate the history of British Biking.

Environment Day, Saturday 11th June.

Father’s Day & the Emergency Services, Sunday 19th June. A special day of celebration, with free entry for Dads.

The Steam Show, 2nd and 3rd July. A weekend of everything steam-related!

Amberley’s 21st Classic Car Show, Sunday 17th July, when around 100 classic cars from the 1955 to 1993 era will be on display.

Other upcoming and popular summer/autumn events include Railway Gala Weekend, Retro Wheels, Steampunk Weekend, Communications Day, Bank Holiday Ale & Crafts, Miniature Steam Weekend, Land Rover Day and special Halloween and Christmas celebrations.
Set in a former chalk and lime-making quarry, Amberley Museum’s unique displays of working and industrial history are open year-round and include facilities for school and community group visits.
