David’ 6000 mile walk arrives in Worthing

On Thursday 29th April, David Matthews arrived in Worthing as part of his epic 6000 mile walk around all the Samaritans branches in the UK and Republic of Ireland.
He was greeted by an enthusiastic group of Worthing Samaritans volunteers, and Worthing’s Town Cryer Bob Smytherman.
David hopes to raise £100,000 to support the Samaritans, as well as recruiting new Samaritans along the way.  He set off from Doncaster in April 2019, and will be visiting 199 Samaritans branches on “The Listening Walk.”
So far he has walked 3,800 miles and Worthing was branch number 107. He has to sell his camper van in May to fund the rest of the walk - every penny he raises goes directly to Samaritans. David has funded the arrangements on the walk himself and has walked through 7 pairs of trainers.
On his arrival at Worthing branch in Lennox Road, David commented “I’m totally bowled over with the turnout from this incredible bunch of Samaritans. Thank you!”
Worthing Samaritans’ Publicity Officer, Patrick Woodward said “it was great to welcome David to Worthing on his epic walk.  He’s a determined and courageous man, and we wish him well for the rest of his journey”
Details of the walk and his progress can be found on thelisteningwalk.co.uk
